I Heart Summer Tag

Hi there, I see you've returned to read more of my blog :)
I didn't really know what I was going to write about but then Little Miss Skimmed Knees tagged me in the 'I Heart Summer Tag' so here goes...

1. Favourite bronzer for summer?
Right well I don't wear bronzer, nor do I own bronzer, so I can't really say I have a favourite, but I'm sure there's some great ones out there.

2. You're relaxing on a hammock on a tropical island, what would you be sipping on?
I quite like coconut water, its kind of strange but definitely worth a try, but I also like this odd looking green fruit drink from tescos, its got apple, kiwi and I can't remember what else in it but its a nice drink, so yeah, probably that.

3. Pool or Beach?
I like both to be honest. I live near the beach so its easy to just pop down for a day on the beach and have a paddle in the sea, but I just can't stand getting sand everywhere, and I do mean EVERYWHERE, so I suppose that's the up side to a pool, its less sandy.

5. Summer = Crazy hair, what's your must have styling product?
I have really long hair and I don't tend to do much to it so I haven't got any styling products, apart from hairspray, but this shampoo I've been using is really nice. Its from Superdrug ( which is against animal testing may I just add :D ) and its 99p from its own range, they do lots of different ones depending on your hair type but I like the coconut and sweet almond for damaged hair (although my hair isn't damaged) because it leaves it soft and smelling lovely :D

6. Sunbathing or fake tanning?
I can't say I enjoy either. I don't really tan very much anyway so sunbathing is rather pointless, don't get me wrong I enjoy being in the sun, I just don't like lounging about in it. As for fake tan, I don't use it, I used to dove moisturiser that has fake tan stuff in it , but it just made my knees go yellow. So really I'm fine just being pale and interesting.

7. Favourite Summer Nail Polish?
I don't paint my nails an awful lot, but I paint my toe nails. I painted them a lilac colour with blue sparkles but they looked a bit cold for this time of year, if that makes sense? So I borrowed my mums, its an orangy red colour and so it doesn't make me look too pale.

8. Any summer traditions?
Every year in the summer, I go camping somewhere, often more than once, with my family. Last year I went to a small festival called Chilled in a Field ( look it up, its pretty cool ), so we just go around to places and camp for a few nights or a week, I love it.

9. Favourite summer scent?
Well it would be Next Pink if I had any left but seeing as I don't, I've been using my mum's. Its from Jack Wills and its a roll on in a little tube and its Poppy I think, it smells lovely though.

10. Favourite BBQ Food?
I can honestly say I'm not a massive fan of BBQs, I have no idea why I just think they're a bit boring. I did have one a few days ago though and I had some really nice garlic chicken, it was really nice.

11. Favourite summer proof makeup?
I don't wear a lot of make up but my two must haves
1) My black liquid eyeliner from 'Collection 2000' its cheap at £2.99 and stays on all day
2) My Maybelline falsies flared mascara, it really curls you eyelashes and flicks them out as well

12. Any summer vacations planned?
I have a 12 day trip to New Orleans to build houses for those who lost there's in 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina. I'm going with the Ursuline Links UK (google it (or yahoo, bing etc. haha), its a great thing to have a read about) its a small organisation run by the Ursuline Sisters and I'm really looking forward to it :D

Thanks for reading.
Until next time...

Sunday 4 August 2013

Hi there, thank you for stumbling across my blog :)

Seeing as this is my first post on my blog, I thought hmm, what can I write about that won't bore you?
Then I remembered, I made rock cakes with my brother today, so why don't I give you the recipie so you can try them. They are really nice to have with a cup of tea and really easy to make,so why not give them a try?

This recipie will make 10 or 12 rock cakes depending on how big or small you want them and I suppose you can add different fruits or some spices depending on what you like.

So the ingredients you will need are...

200g (7oz) Self Raising Flour
70g (2.5oz) Butter
80g (3oz) Caster Sugar
80g (3oz) Sultanas
2 medium eggs

So this recipie is really easy...
1) Firstly, you will need to turn the oven to 200C, 180C for a fan oven or Gas Mark 6.
2) Secondly, grease and line a baking tray ready to put you rock cakes on to.
3) Thirdly, put the flour and butter into a mixing bowl and crumb ( this is where you use your fingers to rub the flour and butter togther until it looks like bread crumbs and there is no more unmixed butter or flour)
4) Next, add the sugar and 2 eggs and mix together until all the ingredients are combined.
5) Now, sultanas can now be added, mix these into the rock cake mixture.
6) Using a spoon or two, spoon the mixture onto your baking tray in to 10 or 12 roundish blobs making sure they arent to close (as they spread when they cook).
7) Make a sugar syrup by mixing together warm water with sugar, you wont need much
8) Brush this syrup onto the rock cakes, this will give them a cruchy top when they're cooked
9) Now place the rock cakes in the centre of the oven for 15 minutes
10) Take them out of the oven, sprinkle with sugar while they are still warm and leave to cool

These are the ones my brother and I made today,
the four at the back are plain, the rest have sultanas in them.

I hope that this recipie is easy to follow and as I said before if you dont like sultanas you could add something else or even just leave them plain and if you like you can put butter or jam on them if you dont want to eat them as they are.

So this has been my first post, I hope you've found it interesting and I hope you enjoy making your rock cakes.

Please feel free to comment and tell me how you found this recipie and even give me some of your recipies for anything you've tried.

Thanks for reading the first of many posts on my blog and I'm looking forward to hearing your ideas.
